ABSTRACT

Objective@#The influence of BMI and gender on Function Movement Screens (FMS) was analyzed to provide objective basis for improving physical quality and prevention of sports injuries among adolescents.@*Methods@#A total of 676 junior middle school students aged between 11 and 14 in grade 2 selected from a middle school in Beijing, were grouped by sex for FMS total score comparison. FMS scores of male and female students were compared according to body mass index (BMI). The 7 movements of FMS were compared and analyzed by male and female groups respectively. The influence of gender on FMS and the relationship between BMI and FMS were explored to seek the features of FMS in Chinese adolescents.@*Results@#FMS scores of male and female students in the BMI standard group were significantly higher than those of the super-recombination group(P<0.01); there was no significant difference in FMS scores between the standard group and the low weight group. BMI score was negatively correlated with FMS score, and the r value of boys was -0.27; for girls, the r value was -0.18(P<0.05). The total FMS score of male group was significantly lower than that of female group, which was (13.09±2.17) for male group and (13.91±1.79) for female group(t=-5.31, P<0.01). In comparison between men and women on each FMS test, there were significant differences in all categories except for the stability of trunk rotation (P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#Combined with BMI, FMS score can objectively reflect the overall athletic ability of adolescents. There were gender differences in FMS total score and individual score. FMS score can be used as a supplementary reference for physical fitness test of middle school students.

ABSTRACT

Clear cell myomelanocytic tumors (CCMTs) of the falciform ligament/ligamentum teres are extremely rare. CCMTs are a variant of perivascular epithelioid cell tumors. We present a case of hepatic CCMT in a 54-year-old woman with abdominal pain. The patient had an 8.8 cm well-demarcated tumor in the right lobe of the liver. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed a heterogeneous mass that enhanced significantly in the arterial and portal venous phases, and was less enhanced in the delayed phase. The patient underwent a right hemihepatectomy and cholecystectomy. The tumor cells had clear to slightly eosinophilic cytoplasm, vesicular nuclei, and were positive for HMB-45 and smooth muscle actin. The patient had no recurrence after 36 months follow-up. A review of the literature identified 10 hepatic CCMTs. Hepatic CCMTs are usually benign tumors of young women that present as large masses located in the right lobe of the liver.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To examine the cytotoxic properties of both the kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) seed extract and kenaf seed oil on human cervical cancer, human breast cancer, human colon cancer and human lung cancer cell lines. Methods:kenaf seed oil on human cancer cell lines was evaluated by using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide and sulforhodamine B assays. Cell morphological changes were observed by using an inverted light microscope. Results:The in vitro cytotoxic activity of the kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) seed extract and cancer cell lines. Morphological alterations in the cell lines after KSE and KSO treatment were observed. KSE and KSO possessed effective cytotoxic activities against all the cell lines been selected. Conclusions:KSE and KSO could be potential sources of natural anti-cancer agents. Further The kenaf seed extract (KSE) exhibited a lower IC50 than kenaf seed oil (KSO) in all of the investigations on using kenaf seeds for anti-proliferative properties are warranted.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To optimize the protocols for isolation and culture of mesenchymal stem cells from rat bone marrow (BMSCs).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>BMSCs were isolated by adherence to plastic with frequent medium change and reduced trypsinization time. The cell growth curves were drawn and the surface markers of BMSCs were detected by flow cytometry. The cells were induced to differentiate into osteogenic, adipogenic, hepatic and cholic lineages.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The cells isolated using this method were positive for CD29, CD44, and CD90 and negative for the hematopoietic surface markers CD45. The osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation of the BMSCs was verified by alkaline phosphatase staining, Alizarin red staining and Oil red staining. The cell subcultures up to passage 10 maintained capacities of differentiation into osteogenic and adipogenic lineages. The BMSCs induced with sequential addition of growth factors, cytokines and hormones differentiated into cells expressing hepatocyte- and cholangiocyte-specific markers.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The optimized method allows efficient isolation of homogenous populations of MSCs from rat bone marrow, which can be induced into multiple cell lineages.</p>

ABSTRACT

In recent years, the incidence of iatrogenic bile duct injury has increased. The traditional treatment methods often cause severe complications, such as biliary-enteric anastomosis, which removes the sphincter of Oddi's function. With the development and potential translational use of engineered tissue, surgeons have focused on keeping normal physiological function after operations. In this manuscript,we review the strategy to repair bile duct defects without sacrificing the sphincter of Oddi' s function. This article may be referenced for clinical research.
